Low-maintenance ZZ plants are Zamioculcas zamiifolia, characterized by their shiny, wide, oval-shaped leaves that shoot upward and quickly grow in a home indoors. The plant natively grows in East Africa, namely Zanzibar and Tanzania. These plants are also called Zanzibar Gems for their spotless, waxy leaves that are so deep green that sometimes, these plants are mistaken as artificial.
The ZZ Plant is among the most trendy and popular houseplants. In response their drought resistance, they have developed rhizomes and thick upright stems that can retain water for the plant. When the Raven produces new growth, the leaves emerge in an electric lime-green color. As they mature, each waxy leaflet slowly becomes a dark green shade. While it's a beautiful houseplant, the ZZ plant is also one of the easiest to grow indoors, tolerating a wide range of lighting and moisture conditions. Perfect for both beginner and advanced plant parents, the ZZ can grow in practically any room of the home or office.
