MEET THE
HULA HOOP DIVA
Hi, I'm Denice
Health Coach | Hula Hoop Fitness Instructor | Founder of the Caregivers’ Safe Space
As a health coach and hula hoop fitness instructor, I am passionate about empowering women—particularly those who care for the elderly and individuals with autism. My journey into health and wellness began after years spent working as a corporate accountant, a career that took a toll on both my physical health and emotional well-being. As a mother of two, I realized I needed to make changes, not just for myself but to set a better example for my children.
The turning point came when my youngest child, David, was diagnosed with a learning disability. Navigating the healthcare system was challenging, as I sought natural alternatives to the pharmaceutical treatments that left him lethargic and unwell. When I struggled to find solutions, I decided to take matters into my own hands. After years of researching herbs, vitamins, and nutrition plans, I saw positive changes in David’s health and decided to formalize my knowledge by becoming a certified health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
This transformation was life-changing, allowing me to take control of my family's health and pursue a meaningful career where I could help others do the same. I launched Denice’s Total Wellness, where I guide clients through a holistic approach to health, integrating fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. During the pandemic, I even introduced a hula hoop fitness class for women over 50, helping them stay active and fit.
In addition to my personal wellness business, I co-founded Roots + Fire Water Co. with my daughter, Amanda, combining our family's legacy of farming and herbalism with modern health solutions. Together, we created Fire Water Teas, blending our ancestral herbal recipes with tropical flavors and medicinal properties to craft teas that heal and nourish.
Alongside my wellness work, I founded the Caregivers’ Safe Space, a foundation dedicated to supporting caregivers of autistic youth and adults. Inspired by my own journey as David’s mother, I wanted to create a space for caregivers to find resources, community, and emotional support as they navigate the unique challenges of caring for physically and/or mentally disabled loved ones.
Through all my work—whether helping clients achieve better health or providing much-needed support to caregivers—my mission remains clear: to help others find balance, joy, and vitality in their lives.
